Sazerac is using Historiq’s Una Platform to Organize Nearly 400 Years of Distilling History

August 25, 2026 — Historiq, an archival processing, digitization, and technology company, today announced a partnership with the Sazerac Company, one of the world’s largest privately held spirits companies which will empower Sazerac’s archive team to catalog and organize a collection that traces the company’s roots back nearly four centuries.

“… We’re absolutely amazed at the potential — and how easy it is to talk our way through some of the cataloging. We are very excited about tackling the unprocessed part of our collections with this new technology.”
Nick Laracuente, Lead Archivist at the Sazerac Company

Sazerac’s archive spans more than 400,000 artifacts tied to the company’s global homeplaces and 500-plus spirits brands, and the archive team is responsible for their cataloging, care, and display.

Sazerac’s story begins in the 1630s, when the Sazerac family established a vineyard and distillery in France’s Cognac region. Generations later, their namesake brandy, Sazerac de Forge et Fils, became the spirit behind the original Sazerac Cocktail in nineteenth-century New Orleans, and the company’s namesake. Today the archive holds everything from flintlock rifles used to guard the Booth‘s Gin distillery in the 1700‘s to Prohibition-era business filings and cataloging those artifacts across centuries and continents has long been a painstaking, manual process.

Historiq’s Una platform is designed to change that. Sazerac’s archive team can search, tag, and cross-reference artifacts conversationally, cutting down the time it takes to surface a record and freeing the team to focus on research and interpretation rather than manual data entry.

The platform is also giving Sazerac a bottle-by-bottle inventory of its historic spirits. Working through the collection, the team can quickly capture each bottle's label information, production year, and other identifying details alongside photographs of the bottle itself, building a single record for every item in the holdings. The result is a precise, verifiable picture of what Sazerac holds, where it came from, and what condition it is in.

The partnership gives Sazerac and its archive team a faster, more accessible way to work with a collection that underpins new product development, brand storytelling, and public education.
